Barawa International University (BIU) is a community private university located in the city of Barawa[1], Somalia[2], formed in 2018 as university whose scope is not limited to the teaching of Natural Science as well as Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities.BIU has been approved by the Ministry of Education of Somalia. We hope to achieve international recognition in the near future.

BRIEF HISTORY
Barawa International University was founded by Dr. Abdiaziz Ali Husein in December 2018 as a private community comprehensive institution in the South West State of Somalia. It has a unique quality of having a fantastic moderate climate with the best land and sea breeze. Recognized among private universities for quality facilities and academic services it has prepared for its students, BIU shall be a rising star among research universities, yet it retains the look and feel of a peaceful, accessible and attractive Barawa city. Programs are offered through the Schools of Social Sciences, Health Sciences, Engineering & Technology, Islamic Studies, Business& Economics, and English language and literature.

Barawa International University (BIU) will be a Not-For-Profit foundation university located in South west state Barawa Somalia and will pioneer quality instruction, research, and service to society. As you will see in the pages to follow, City is literally setting the gold standard for quality education in Somalia.
From the foundations program that teaches the language of instructions in a professional format, to the libraries and laboratories, the qualification of our instructors and cutting edge curricula, Barawa International University shall raise the bar for higher education in south west state Somalia. Our facilities and equipment and our student centric pedagogy are anticipated to making a tangible difference in the lives of many young people in Somalia Barawa.
The language of instruction at Barawa International University shall be English, except in the case of the degree in Sharia & Law where Arabic is the medium of instruction.
All BIU graduates, including the Sharia and Law students, are required to be proficient in English. Barawa University’s authorized as a degree granting institution by the Somali Ministry of Education Directorate of Higher Education and Culture and is a founding member of the Association of Somali and Universities (ABU) and Somali Research and Innovation Management Association (SORIMA) and its parent organization EARIMA (East African Research and Innovation Management Association).
